Anyway this morning i woke up and as i went to the bathrrom it leaked all through my underwear and dripped down my leg and for the past 3years i have had blood clots but today they were huge. and ive heard that when u first start your period its heavy and after 2-3 years it gets lighter and gets heavy again when you reach menopause. So im just wondering if my period is now gonna get lighter because it'll be 3 years next month, my GP thinks im too young to go on the pill as i may not be suffering from menorraghia but i may just be experiencing heavy periods for the first few years since i started. does this usually happen because ive never leaked through before and its never been this heavy before.

I advise you to not let your age interfere with your medical treatment & tell your doctor how its affecting you & your life. In my case I have had to use both a tampon & pad to make sure I don't leak & I'm left exhausted & moody. I finally was helped when I was dragged into the hospital. They checked my blood & found me to be extremely anemic, I only had 7 units of blood, normal is 12. When they tried to figure out why I had so much blood loss is when I recieved my diagnosis of Menorragiah. Now I'm looking at possible surgery if they would have been able to balance my hormones earlier I might have had a better chance to avoid it, however not even the pill is regulating my flow right now. I wish you the best of luck, just be firm & don't be afraid to give your doctor details even if you feel squimish & embarrassed

It's possible to leak through, especially if you've had the same pad in overnight and also because when you stand up gravity sends the blood rushing downwards quicker than it would normally emerge. A doctor's definition of a heavy period is having to use more than 8 towels or tampons every day. If this is true tell your doctor and ask if there are things other than the pill you can try. I'm not sure I know of any but it sounds like your doctor is unprepared to give you the pill because she's not sure why you want it. If she does give it to you I advise you to tell your mum you're taking it for your heavy periods to avoid misunderstandings. Sorry if the answer was a bit graphic but it's hard to explain!
