A male reader, LazyGuy Netherlands +, writes (19 February 2009):

LazyGuy agony auntDepending on how severe it is, your problem is pretty common. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and most of us skip it because we don't feel like eating in the morning.

The reason is simple, we screw up our ritme. We go to bed to late so ain't properly woken up in the morning but rather shaken awake by the alarm clock and our body is NOT prepared to eat in its sleep. Try to go to bed earlier, so that you wake up early and on your own and have say 1.5 hours to do your morning routine. Make something to eat that doesn't contain to much fat and that doesn't have much of a smell. See if it changes.

IF however the problem is more severe, you REALLY can't eat (rather then just don't feel like it) you might want to talk to a doctor about it as others have already said.

For once I have to disagree with Gina and Tisha(a very rare moment) but you might want to go to the doctor first.

You're old enough to arrange an appointment to see your GP on your own.

The only reason I think you should go to the doctor first is so you can have something concrete to tell your parents, so they don't freak out and think you have an eating disorder.

I don't know your parents, if you think they'd freak out more that you didn't go to them first, then forget all of what I just said.

Yes do tell your mum and dad.

Are you stressed or feeling depressed? Sometimes that can really affect peoples appetites - I know it does mine.

When I split up with my ex 6 months ago I basically didn't eat for a month; not because I didn't want to eat, just because I couldn't! I lost over a stone in weight and like you, didn't have much weight on me to begin with. This is really dangerous and you should tackle this problem as soon as you can.

I was stressed last week and could barely stomach anything for a good few days. One technique I've learnt since last year and used successfully last week is this - even when your stomach feels gross, it can usually cope with something bland and inconspicuous; drink a couple of glasses of water in the morning along with something like a bannana, some toast or some wheaty cereal. This should slowly stretch your stomach to cope with bigger portions.

Drink plenty of water to cleanse your system and eat lots of slow release foods - personally I think bannanas are a God send, eat plenty of them!

Do tell your parents though and go to the doctors if it gets any worse.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (19 February 2009):

My teenage son had a messed up digestive tract for a while. We took him to the doctor and it wasn't identified as any specific thing, but the doctor had him take probiotics for a while that we got from the pharmacist (kept refrigerated). It's the same thing as the active cultures in yogurt. His doctor said that he'd have to eat a huge amount of yogurt to get the amount needed, so that wouldn't be practical, although I would thing yogurt would still be a good thing. The doctor also had him eat the same way you do when you've been sick and had a very upset digestive tract. I still don't know why he had the stomach problem. It could be he had just been eating too much of the wrong thing, too much junk food. Now he eats a pretty healthy diet and has no trouble, and he's on the thin side, whereas he used to be a little plump.

Maybe your problem could be to do with anxiety. Are you anxious or dreading something you are having to deal with in your life? Anyway, I'm sure you should get a checkup with your doctor to get this straightened out.

A female reader, Tisha-1 United States +, writes (19 February 2009):

Tisha-1 agony auntI agree with Gina, you should tell your mom or dad about this. It could be nothing, or it could be something that needs attention. It's better not to put things like this off. What starts out as a small problem can become huge if ignored.

Doctor, soon. Hugs.
