There's a Jergens product here in the US that is a daily moisturizer with just a little bit of the self tanning stuff in it. So you use it everyday, and the color builds up gradually and therefore evenly. I'd look for that at Boots or someplace like that. I expect that you should be able to find it in the UK.

reader, anonymous, writes (19 July 2008): This is verified as being by the original poster of the questionalso, ive got insanely natural pale skin, and have a history of skin cancer in my family. i'd really rather to anything to stay out of the sun, to protect my skin, but get the tan i want.
please dont tell me to embrace my natural colouring, have tried this for several years, with no avail.

It's currently 'summer' here, but you wouldn't know it looking out the window!

reader, anonymous, writes (19 July 2008): (smile)...The "painted on tans" are all pretty dubious, hon. I prefer the real ones I get when out working with my shirt off, or out on the lake. They are not as "quick and easy", but they are real and look much better. Just use sunscreen and be careful of sunburn.

reader, anonymous, writes (19 July 2008): I've never heard of the stuff, but maybe it's one of the cheaper ones. It's worth paying a bit more to get good results. My other (better?) half uses Clarins and it looks as if she's spent a fortnight sunbathing on the beach in St Tropez. It doesn't look fake.
Use latex gloves to apply it otherwise the creases between your fingers will look like you've been working on the car engine all week!
