(female)

in 2007 alot was happening in my life and i started suffering with anorexia.

i went from 9st - 6st

no one realised but i think my mum did as she started making me come in for tea but she never took me to the doctors.

i started eating propely again (1200 kl) at about half way through 2008.

ive only just realised that 1200kl still isnt enough for a day but most of the time i eat less than that, thats on a good day.

if anything happens in my life (even if its something little) i go back to what i was like in 2007 and i cant even stop it.

i think im fat

im always the last person to finish what were eating

my hairs thin and it always falls out

ive got bald spots on my head (you cant tell inless your straightening my hair or something)

im always bloated

always pale or purple

im very self concious and not confident

when i exersize im always thinking of burning the calories ive just ate

iregular periods

do you think im still suffering with anorexia?

and what shall i do?

if i am will i ever fully recover or

if im not then will i ever stop going back like i was in 2007 when something upsets me?

Tell your mum it's concerning you and talk to her about it, then go and see your gp who will probably do some test and if he/she thinks it's a concern they will refer you to a professional. Anorexia can become very serious if not treated. All the best.

A female reader, Honeypie United States +, writes (26 May 2009):

Honeypie agony auntI'm not in the same situation, but I was bulimic as a teen. I did end up getting help, not that I thought I really needed it. However I learned a lot from my counselor as to WHY I was doing it.

I am OCD, I am a perfectionist. I got teased a couple of time being called fat ( not that I really was) and that ultimately triggered my "need" for total control. I couldn't control what people thought of me and my looks, but I could control how much I weighed. I "took" control and went over boards. I ended up at 43 kilo , 5 foot 7 inches. ( that is 87 lbs).

What I think you need is someone to help you understand WHY you feel the sense of control with your food that you do. 1200 calories seems a tad little for a teenager. But I am not a doctor, so please make sure you find someone qualified to discuss your diet/intake of food with. IT is vital.

The reason your hair is this and falling out is because you only provide your body with the minimal nourishment. You need help.

You can fully recover. Like any other "addiction" you will need to understand WHY you do what you do, you will need help. I would try and see if you can find a support group of people who have recovered from this and ask for help. Tell your mom. Talk to her.

As for your self esteem, it is natural for a teenager to "depend" on others for their body image. But what you also need to realise that we are not created from the same physical mold. We are all a little different in height, weight, eye color, skin color, hair, voice, our hands, toes, teeth.... We can't all look like Heidi Klum or Madonna. Only 2% of the entire female population have a size 4 or smaller. The average is a size 14. You need to understand that there is so much more to a person then what she/he looks like. Learn to love yourself for who you are. Set goals for yourself and beat those goals. Try new things such as a hobby, you might learn that you have some hidden talent and when you do go for it.

Journal your life. Then every now go back and read it, hopefully you will be able to laugh at some of it and see that you have grown.

Get help honey. You deserve it.

georgiexx agony auntdarling, it does indeed sound like you are still suffering from anorexia, what surprises me is that you've never seen a doctor about it. it is vital you seek medical attention they can help you through your illness and get you any help you require. it may help to talk to someone for the reasons behind your low self esteem and self image and the factors that trigger your bouts of weight loss. you've taken the first step in adknowledging you may need a little help. eating disorders such as anorexia can be cured and the psycological triggers behind them controlled. once you get the treatment you need i'm sure you'll be able to make a full recovery, you seem like a very intellegant young woman to seek help now and you are never alone, there will always be someone here to help, feel free to message me if you fancy a chat. my advice would be to make an appointment with your gp and take along someone you trust, like your mum or a close friend so you have some support. your doctor will understand the problems you are facing and will be able to sort out an action plan to get you feeling amazing again. i'll attach some website so you can refer to them, sweetheart everything is going to be ok! with my love and support xx
