Am I pregnant?

Question - (15 December 2008) 3 Answers - (Newest, 15 December 2008)
A female United Kingdom age 30-35, *DJ writes:

I started the pill almost 3 weeks ago and I took it correctly (on the first day of my period) so that it was more effective and I've been taking it at the right time everyday. When I'd only been on it for 3 days or something me and my boyfriend of 8 months had sex without a condom and he came inside me. Lately I've been feeling moody, my breasts are tender and I've been feeling a bit ill randomly. Could I be pregnant or could I just be paranoid because I know he's came inside me? I really need some help, my question previously got rejected because it was asked too many times and I tried to find an answer and I can't so I'm asking it again in hope it doesn't get bloody rejected again.

Don't worry hun, I felt exactly the same when I first started to have sex with the pill. Even though you know the pill is effective it almost feels like a mental contaceptive as its not actually there during sex.

Your symptoms are very likely to be caused by the pill as they are the symptoms that I had, read the leaflet enclosed with them.

Also, you don't have to take it at exactly the same time every day, there is lee-way of a few hours, they just tell you to take it at the same time so you don't forget.

Don't worry babe you probably aren't pregnant but if it makes you feel better take a test!! xxx

petina1 agony auntFirstly a home pregnancy test should be done, they are very acurate these days and in the early stages. Secondly, did you read the instructions of the pill, I think you arent supposed to have unprotected sex for the first 14 days of taking it.

If your not pregnant and still experiencing some side effects, like swollen breasts etc, you shouldnt leave it too long before you go to docs because there are different pills and some don't suit everyone. hope this helps.

samsmommy agony auntYou could probably go to your doctor, or look on the back of the box/container, etc. to see if it says anything about how long you have to take the pills before they are effective. You would think it would be right when you take it, but I've never taken pills before so I wouldn't know. Also you can get pregnant even if you're taking birth control. I would go out and buy a pregnancy test as there is no way of knowing if you're pregnant other than that.

Best Wishes
