writes: Hi!I am visiting my boyfriend this year in the summer. A plane ticket from the U.S. to Canada costs about 600-800 dollars, which seemed.. well, reasonable to me. He is offering to pay for half of my ticket.I've been so excited about it and told my friends this. But their response wasn't that they were happy for me, but instead that they thought my boyfriend was trashy/cheap for not paying for all of my ticket and that he should be the one visiting me instead.I got a bit hurt and angry at that comment. He's only a year older than I am, and still lives at home with his mother so I don't expect him to just dish out $700 dollars on me. To me that's not realistic.I told my friends this but they seem to disagree..Am I over reacting with their comments about my boyfriend or am I being realistic with the situation?

If you're the one to travel you should actually pay your own ticket. If he was traveling to you, he'd pay his ticket. Thats what's fair. His offering to pay of your ticket is gallant of him, and your friends are just jealous. When people feel bad about their own lives they enjoy to spoil the fun for others who got it better.
