A female reader, maverick494 United States +, writes (3 September 2010):

If the age you put up is correct, you are entitled to decide for yourself which school you want to go to. That is, unless your mom is the one paying for it all. That gives her more power. But that doesn't mean you should let her decide. You can always threaten not to go to any school at all, work for a year and then pay for it yourself so you can choose where to go.

That said, your friends shouldn't be the motivation to attend a school. At your age, this means college or Uni and it is much more important to find a school that fits your ambitions rather than your social circle. Maybe this is the reason your mom does't want you to attend the school your friends are attending. In the future, you will also need to work and get along with people that are strangers to you. Your mom may just want you to be more independent.

As for that girl you don't like. Colleges and Universities are stuffed with hundreds, if not a thousand students. Who says you'll end up in a class with her? And when you say more people like her, which people do you mean? She can't possibly know beforehand who she is going to end up in class with.

So calm down. This is not the end of the world. This is your future!
