writes: ok. I want to go on birth control because i have long periods, bad cramps and i'm sexually active. I've had sex before and i'm close to having sex again with a new boyfriend. Does birth control (after taking it for a year or more) really keep you from having kids when your older?

It's a brilliant way of making sure your periods are in a perfect cycle, with no surprises and the fact thats its a contraceptive is a bonus. Just remember to take it everyday!

No, it does not prevent pregnancy at a later time. No medical professional is likely to say that it would never cause infertility, but that would be extremely unlikely. You almost certainly should be able to get pregnant after you discontinue use of the birth control pill.
