Question - (12 October 2010) 1 Answers - (Newest, 12 October 2010)
A female United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

My friend has been with her boyfriend just less than a year now, and six months of that time he has been in different country. She talks about "their wedding" all the time and even emailed him pictures of the ring she wanted and told him her ring size, though he never asked or eluded to this. She has picked out their kids names and the desination of their wedding before he has even proposed!I am worried if something happens between them she will be devasted. He is her first boyfriend but she is 25. Please help me find a way to talk to her about this so she doesn't scare him away for good!

andrea_c agony auntwow, if this question was posted a few months ago i would have thought you were talking about a friend of mine who use to be in the same situation. Only it wasn't her first boyfriend, by any means.

I think that you should start sharing your advice with her by saying, "in reality..." #1, long distance relationships have a high failure rate, statistically, #2, he hasn't even proposed, and #3, slow the $#&! down! No man worthy of dating or even marrying would find this behavior attractive. Men get squeamish and want to hide in a corner if they hear their new girlfriend drop the M (marriage) bomb.
