If you are female and not pregnant, then you are having your period, or the start of one. I don't know your age, but women can have irregularity in their periods due to stress, differences in monthly hormone levels and which ovary has ovulated and discharged...you're not a robot, your a human with variations in your system...but good idea to go to the doc and get it checked out, they can answer your questions more accurately.

If you're on any kind of hormonal birth control or have taken the Plan B emergency contraception, those can all cause spotting. How close are you to your period?

However it could also be that you're pregnant, an ectopic pregnancy, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, contraceptive related (missed/new pill or IUD problem), an internal tear etc.
You should not delay in going to the doctors - anything down there can easily spiral into something serious with a major impact to your reproductive health from something that could have been simply dealt with. Its not worth messing about - go asap and make sure. Hope it turns out ok.
