writes: Hi thanks for for reading. i have a quick question about pregnancy. a friend of mine (18 yrs) had unprotected sex only a week and a half ago and she is experiencing nausea and lack of appetite. She said she hasnt eaten anything in 3 days. She says her period isnt supposed to happen for 2 more weeks but she is too scared to take a test. Is it normal for symptoms to start this early? could she really be pregnant or is it all in her head that is causing the symptoms? thanks a lot guys/girls

Most womens fertile period (when they are most likely to fall pregnant) is aprox 2 weeks before they get there period. But she had the unprotected sex 1 and a half weeks before then. This makes the chances of falling pregnant slim to none. And even if she was pregnant she probably wouldn't be experiencing nausea as morning sickness is caused by the increase in hormones during pregnancy and the hormone increase at 1 and a half weeks pregnancy is very small not enough to cause symptoms. The only thing to do is weight out the next 2 weeks and then take a pregnancy test. And next time use CONDOMS

It's way too early for any symptoms of pregnancy. She needs to go to the drug store and get a pregnancy test. Most women don't start getting any symptoms until around the third month. Tell your friend to be more careful in the future, babies deserve to be planned. Good luck.

Simply stated...no. You would not experience symptoms that early. I expect that it is nerves and the not eating that is doing it.Yes, you can be pregnant at this point, which can be discovered in a doctor's office, but an at-home test will require waiting til the first period is missed. And normal public service announcement--come on, kiddies. You can get condoms free from a Planned Parenthood clinic. There is no reason to put yourselves through this stress. You or your friend can also go on birth control pills for free if you are in school or lower income, at the clinic. Also, if a condom breaks or an accident happens, get to a clinic or your doctor within 72 hours. Emergency contraception will prevent pregnancy. It will also prevent the anxiety you'll be experiencing for the next two weeks.
