A kind act for my boss for Christmas?

A female United States age 41-50, anonymous writes:

I am considering offering to work for my boss on Christmas so that he can go home out of state for a couple of days to see his family for the holiday. Would a kind act be misconstrued for more? In reality, I have had a crush on him, but its over for the most part now. I am also afraid that by offering to do this he will think I am trying to earn brownie points. Neither one of these is the reason. I just feel bad for him not being able to see his family. My family is from around here and members that aren't are coming here for the week of Christmas so I will be able to see them anyway. Advice please!!!!!

I'd say it was fine to just tell him.

A few people I know always say they'll work Christmas because they know everyone else has kids etc.

So just say to him, "You know my family are all local? Well I don't mind working over Christmas since it's so easy for me to see them. So if you or someone else needed Christmas off then I don't mind working it."

Good Luck!! xx

Why not TELL him that you fear your offer might be misconstrued for the reasons you have outlined here and assure him you are only offering so that he can see his family at this special time for him and them?

Nobody ever went wrong by making things clear and eliminating misunderstanding before it starts.

Good luck: I know he will appreciate your kindness.

I think you are over analyzing this. If you want to offer to work for him at Christmas I think he would love that and if he didn't want to go out of state for the Holidays he will let you know.

Who cares if he thinks you are trying to earn brownie points, I love brownies they are my favorite desert.

And no, I don't think he will think you have the hots for him, that you like him as a person, and there is nothing unprofessional about that!
