If you rush into it its probably not going to last long. Its better to get to know each other before actually comencing a relationship, especially if you intend to be in it for the long run. I also agree with the other posters about dating ther people while this is going on. Although if you really like him and want to guve things a shot it may be better if you wait a while and see how things go between you two.

I think he means that he wants to get to know you before he commits to being your boyfriend. I would be the same if i was single i would want to spend some time being friends before i decided i wanted to actually be with them in a relationship. Perhaps hes a little unsure, just be friends and see what happens but dont wait around forever if you meet someone else that you want and he wants you then this guy will just have to miss out.

huh? I don't understand what you don't understand.... He wants you to be friends with him before the two of you get into a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship, like he said. He does not want to be your official boyfriend until he has spent sometime hanging out with you with no strings attached. Please note that this may mean he will keep dating other people too.
