A full term baby is one born between 38 & 42 weeks pregnancy; 40 weeks is most commonly used as the due date because it's the average.

But it's nearly impossible to pinpoint the day when you became pregnant. I don't know anyone whose child made an appearance at exactly 40 weeks. My first baby came along at 40.5 weeks, and my second was born at 41.5 weeks. When I went for my last appointment for baby #2, the doctor talked about inducing labor if nothing had happened naturally within a few days.

Your doctor may monitor you a little more vigorously, but will probably wait until you've reached 42 weeks to induce unless there's a reason to act sooner. Try not to worry in the meantime.

Wait until you are 41 weeks, and if nothing still has happened, book you in for induction at 42 weeks, give you a membrane sweep at 41.5 weeks if nothing has happened, and hope something happens before 42 weeks, but if not, induce at that point.

And you should not worry, and should have plenty of sex, because there is a hormone in sperm that softens the cervix and induces labour naturally.

With my first baby I didn't dilate at all they end up inducing me at 43 weeks. I only had 30% fluid left in me. Then my baby heart stop dropping and they rush me for emergency c section. I was going to the doctor every week then every two to three days. Just keep going back

I don't think your doctor consults DearCupid for his medical decisions.

If this is your first baby most of the time the baby will come between 40 and 42 weeks. And dont worry that you havent dialated some women dont at all until they are actually in labor. You should be having weekly appointments with ur dr. He will check your baby and they will probably do a non stress test to watch the babys heart rate to make sure he/she is doing ok. If you dont go into labor on your own they will induce you. They give you pitocin and break your water. Dont worry it doesnt hurt. They induced me with my second baby he was just born 2 wks ago. My first is 15 months and my water broke on its own with him at 40 weeks and 4 days. i hope that helped.

A lot of baby`s tend to not enter the birth canal until the onset of labour and 42 weeks is full term after this time the midwife will inform you of the next options available to you, slow labour can be hours, but a short labour much less time, but i'm sure you will know when labour has truly begun

Dear Mandy agony auntHi

First get the Dr to check the baby is ok, Then bring you into hospital to induce labour. Have you been in touch with your midwife? You should also let her know. But it is vey common, many women go a week or even two weeks later than expected. He/She is probally enjoying the comfort of your tummy, and dont want to come yet. Congratulations :) And I hope it all goes well for you. xx
