writes: just a quick question. its one of my friends birthdays in a couple of days, i don't see him very often but speak to him every day so i'm going to send him his present. i've got him a book and some silly things for his car and was going to send him some money. i was going to send him $30 dollars do you think that is too much? would he find it awkward?

I think I'm going to get myself a few internet girlfriends and tell them different dates of birth I could get a nice regular income out of this.
I honestly think you should send him the gifts as that shows thought, caring and consideration, but sending cash just looks like you are buying his friendship, and to be fair $30 is a little lame.

The only people who should send cash in the post are ancient grannys who don't understand your taste.
Send him the gifts and leave it at that.
Money as a gift always looks bad unless you KNOW the person sending it would have messed up and bought you something crap.
