A female United Kingdom age 41-50, anonymous writes:

Hi aunts and uncles,

I really need some advice, my life is in turmoil right now!!!!! Yet again.

I'm 32 and have always had bad luck with men, homes and jobs. I could have just become one of those benefit ladies and got council house which in hindsight I wished I'd done. Instead I thought I was pretty, intelligent and worth more. I was a foster kid, so no family and out on my own at 16. I went to uni as a mature student and as a result worked in pr and rented own flat for few years. Last year I decided to re train as a nurse and I left flat moved to city 200 miles away for 4 months. I came back as my training was moved home. and was homeless but after 6 weeks of staying on friends sofa I found room. Anyway now a few months on, I've found out I've got to move in a month and course finishes in month and I'm now once again jobless and homeless in London. I'm looking to get back into my old media jobs as I don't enjoy nursing, I stayed on course as wanted to see it through. I'm looking but nothing. I'm very scared right now and feel so down as I've been in this position so many times.... I thought at 16, by time I was 32 I'd be settled... I'm far from it. I have friends who I can crash on sofa with but once again back to finding a job and room to live in!!! And what if I don't find a job? Than I can't get a place to live? I'm in a real worry at the moment. I thought my life was finally settled. Feels like it never will be x

You're not alone! Your situation sounds almost exactly like mine. I've just heard someone say that when you lose everything, you can do anything. So I'm trying to focus on that! Wish me luck as I wish you luck.

Hi, it sounds like worry is (almost) as big a problem right now as finding a job and a home! Especially as your situation is far from your ideal expectations, so frustration is high. It might seem worse because you've repeated this scenario many times before, but if you look at it objectively you ARE doing better now because you are finishing your course and you have work experience behind you. All this is a plus for you. Lots of people are looking for jobs, so you are not alone and I hope that works out for you soon. You said you wanted to see the course through even though you don't enjoy nursing, so that shows you have determination and perseverance--all plusses! I would say go back to believing in yourself. I admire people who don't want to go on welfare because they would rather earn their own living, even though it's hard.

In the meantime, enjoy crashing on your friends' sofas--they probably appreciate the company!
