Gmail is an email service from google... as in prunella@gmail.com (not my real address so nobody try to use it please...).

It is pretty cool, free, and way better than hotmail, but it seems you can only get an address by getting an invite from a friend ( at least that is how I got my account)

No, it has a lot of features, unlimited space so you never have to delete, an archive function, it lists conversations in order and plenty of other cool stuff.
