Help with travel plans

SexybumSexybum, posted over a year ago

Hiya just thought I'd stick a post to see if anyone can help. I'm planning a working holiday in Australia and wonder if anyone has any advice or experiences that they can share?

Where do you currently live? What kind of work do you plan on doing in Australia? A year's working visa will let you work for 3-months at a time. This country is amazing you will fall in love with it... Trust me!

I live in the UK and I'm hoping to leave by the end of this year or beginning of next, I need to get some money together. I already looked into the visas, but I was hoping for some advice about the different work out there. I understand that if you work in the harvests for 3 months you are entilted to apply for a second visa?

Hi Sexybum Yes if you do farm work you can apply for an extension. But given that you have a year over here anyway, it seems like an awful hard way to get another few months on your visa! There is all sorts of work available from promotional work, bar work (you need to get a simple qualification first called RSA), farm work (although check seasons and availability), office work.......... etc. You'll have an amazing time.

How do you go about getting the RSA? I've already gots loadsa bar work experience and a bit of family in Aussie, although I haven't been in contact with them since I was about 8!! I want to climb the bridge in Sydney..... I've also been thinking about the accomodation, I know you can get membership with certain hostel associations, but what are these like? Dazzerg how did you accomadate yourself in New Zealand?

RSA is a day long course, costs around $75.. or so I understand. Bridge in Sydney will set you back $180 but is worth it. Accomodation is mixed, YHA is good value usually to join costs around $35... there are reviews of most hostels on the web check them out first although most YHA ones are average to good so you can't go wrong.

Cool thanks for the advice, so how do I apply to do the course is it widely avaliable? Do you have any suggestions of activities that I should try. I won't bungee jump!!

Yeah there are adverts for RSA courses in all the backpacker magazines you can pick up in the hostels. The hostels also have info on all the activities you can do in the local areas. Just grab a copy of the Lonely Planet Australia guide before you head out here and get going. Up the East Coast? Up the West Coast? Along the Bottom? To the middle (that rock)....... Just hanging in Sydney could keep you occupied for a good couple of months (with side trips to the Blue Mountains and more)... There's a million and one things to do

I'm in a dilemna... I used to live by myself but moved back to my parents a few months ago, now I'm practically desperate to move out again, but I have to really choose between staying there and eventually going travelling (I can save more money) or moving t omy own place again and obviously waiting a lot longer to travel (lack of money)???????????? Bear in mind my sanity is at stake if I stay at my parents!! :-)

I love all red wine, in fact the cheaper the better, I am such a cheap date, three bottles of wine (or a box) and im anyones!! (well within reason!)lol I also love port but port does naughty things to me, so I tend to keep away from it, or it gets me into sooo much trouble.
