And no its not because of the amount I drink, as I dont really drink a lot, I just drink on occasion lets say once a month, if that these days. I did put it down to nerves at the time as when i started experiencing it things were a little difficult in life and I was always uneasy due to someone that used to come out with us.That was two years ago and I'm still experiencing it, occasionally I've also experienced it with food. But one thing I have noticed is what seems to have the biggest effect is ... Its when i go outside.People have always commented on the fact I appear to have a bad cough, but its not a cough its an irritation in the throat, my mum also has it but it doesnt affect her, the doctors have said nothing about it, and tbh I'm unsure what I'm meant to say to them if i was to go back.I've noticed the sicky feeling on different occasions 80% of it seems to be my cough, but then again if I drink anything sickly or sugary it makes me feel sick straight away. I say this because once at a part I was drinking shots straight out the bottle with no mix (Coke, lemonade etc) and i was fine... however after a while of drinking things mixed with coke or cocktails i feel violently sick, I'm not always sick but I could be if I let myself. This confuses me even more as I have no problem with drinking soda related drinks like these, none whatsoever so it can't be then, I cannot drink alcopops anymore or anything. I orignally put it down to nerves etc but it can't be as i'm fine, then also down to the irritation in my throat but its not always that, and then for a short while I started experiencing it with food... whats going on. I have also noticed that although people say you should never drink on an empty stomach, I find that if I have had a meal or ate prior to going out I'm also very easily sick, infact my stomachs more settled when its empty.I'm not diabetic either as I have been tested numerous times. I have no idea whats going on, but if theres no medical explantion for it, is there anything I could do?As I say I don't drink myself stupid, I just drink when I want to go out and enjoy myself and theres nothing wrong with that. its really awkward as, one minute I can be fine and the next i have to run off because I feel so sick. Have any of you known of this problem?

I stopped drinking more than 10 years ago I do not miss it, my stomach could not tolerate alchohol at all and I learned to accept that. It also gives me a headache even the tinest teaspoon.

Why do you feel you have to drink in order to keep up with your friends? That is NOT what drinking is about.
If you NEED alcohol in order to have a good time, then you really need to take a long hard look at your priorities.
Different people have different alcohol tolerances, and it can change as you get older.
NEVER mix drinks, stick to one thing, wine OR beer OR spirits. Mixing causes all sorts of trouble.
You may just have to accept you cannot drink as much as your friends. Yes it might annoy you now,but it is not the end of the world. As you get older, you will realise that.

do you feel you can't go out and have fun without drinking alcohol?
I could for the rest of my life never have a drink and have more fun than I care to admit.
why do you feel you NEED even the occasional drink?
I've had a surgery that as a side effect makes me very very very suseptable to getting drunk on even one glass of wine. I do not drink in public ever...
I was having half a glass of wine at home with dinner but now I have an ulcer that is probably alcohold related (again due to my surgery) so I have sworn off all alcohol.
IF you feel your friends will make fun of you for not drinking as younger folks are wont to do, tell them "doctor's orders no drinking"... they can't argue with that can they?

Your feeling sick is God's way of telling you that drinking alcohol is something that you should not be doing....
I don't usually pontificate... but for you, and this instance, I'm willing to make an exception!!!!!
Good luck....

I've always been fine with alcohol not a lightweight in the slightest, and if i drink it straight im fine but obviously thats not very nice and can be rather dangerous. I have a huge feeling its to do with the irritation in my throat as anything remotely sickly, sugary, and even the cold weather makes me worse. I don't drink much at all was just wondering if there was something I could do to settle my stomach. It really gets to me as in response to a previous replier just below, going out sober and staying sober when your in a massive club full of drunks is not nice. Infact I did it on christmas eve due to being ill and I got so wound up because the drunk people were annoying me it was unreal. i appreciate what your saying though but its not nice when you want to go out and have a good time for your mates birthday.. Its not like its a bad thing

Your body is telling you something, listen to it.And someone mentioned you may have a low tolerance for alcohol.... the way you describe some of your symptoms...I experience something which I think has allowed me to refrain from binge drinking, becoming an alcoholic or alcohol poisoning, etc. For whatever reason, when I go out socially and I drink...something comes over me that just tells me to stop, that's enough, don't even drink even one more sip of anything. When I have ignored it, I've vomited, head spinning...yes really drunk...not pleasant. I can get to that buzzed state and that's all I can handle.I also noticed, with certain things I would drink, my neck would get beat red. Nothing else, just my neck...I found out I was allergic to rum and gin...go figure. I avoid any drinks with those ingredients.

Stick with water, tonic? It's not like you can't go out and have with without alcohol.

When you say that it also happens with food, did you mean it happens with food while you are drinking? Or on a regular basis? If its just when drinking there are a few things that can cause one to feel nauseated:1. The order you drink your alcohol in. "Beer before liquer makes you sicker" ha some truth to it. Usually having beers before hard drinks will result in an upset stomach.2. The types of drinks. Some types of drinks can get your stomach more riled up than others.3. Flavors. This is why you might have been feeling sick from drinking alcohol with mixers. Perhaps the flavors just didn't mix right and the taste left you feeling nauseated. Even if you didn't notice it at the time, your senses of smell and taste were probably saying "Blech, these don't belong together." For instance, I'm fine drinking Vodka and I'm fine drinking Orange Juice. But those two mixed together usually makes me feel like vomitting.4. Environment. Where are you drinking? Is it loud? Are you moving a lot? Flashing lights? Dim lights? All of this can factor into how sick you feel.5. Your daily diet. Depending on what and how much you eat during the day, your body will handle alcohol differently. For instance, you should never drink on an empty stomach and you should usually find some light/neutral food to snack on later in the night if you're trying to sober up. Those are just a few things that I've learned over the years.

It could be an allergy as well... My ex-wife's mother was an alcoholic who drank while she was pregnant. As a result, my ex-wife cannot tolerate ANY alcohol - even a couple sips of wine will result in nausea and cramping. Half a glass of wine would have her throwing up. Her doctor calls it an alcohol allergy (maybe for lack of something better to call it).

you might have allergies to certain ingredients in what your drinking. E.g. If your allergic to gluten it will make you sick/stomach cramps within an hour or so of consuming anything Thats high in gluten e.g. Beer, lager some wines etc.
Your doctor can do a simple blood test for allergic reactions. Might be worth a try.

It could just be you have a low tolerance to alcohol. Not everyone can be a hard drinker.
How much do you actually drink on a night out before you feel sick? Are you talking just one glass or more than that?
For me personally, I cannot drink much at all before I begin to feel the effects..... one glass of wine is my limit. Two will make me feel incredibly ill.
I just accepted that drinking is not the best for me - perhaps you also need to stick to the soft drinks?
I know you are in that age bracket (18-21) where the culture is to go out and get completely hammered, but at some point you do have to realise it isnt healthy and feeling ill is a big sign that that kind of lifestyle is not for you.
Cut out the alcohol altogether and see if you still feel ill.
