A male United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

My problem is simple really, I'm lovesick, I just don't know what to do about it, I've been single for a year now and I just don't know what to do, I know it's a long time from now but I'm sick of spending Valentines day alone, it's been 3 years since I had a girlfriend on Valentines day. It's been 1 year and 11 days since my ex and I broke up. I've had a couple chances but I haven't pursued any of them. I talked one girl today, I told her I had feelings for her but there was no response really. I mean she asked me who I liked and I told her I liked her and I asked why she asked and she said she was just wondering than nothing else was mentioned about it. I just get the feeling she doesn't like me very much. There was another girl I was interested in not long after my ex and I broke up. She was a real looker, I mean she was cute, and tall, and built terrifically. I had a real shot with her, I mean she told me she liked me but I didn't pursue her for some reason. I'm a pretty well put together person, I fit in with the popular group I guess. By put together I mean, I'm pretty mature when I wanna be, I know the difference between right and wrong, I know what I wanna do with my future, I drive a '95 Firebird, I've gotta plan for building credit when I turn 18, I can be responsible with my money, I have a job, I don't do drugs. But there are some bad things about me too. A few times a week I'll sit in my basement and have a few cigarettes, and I socially drink when I can get beer. But there not habits, I've never felt an urge to do either, It's not like I have to do it. There is a few other bad things about me I'm 17 almost 18 and I'm a Freshmen in high school. I'm overweight but I'm not like one of those people that sit around and eat all day long, I walk around the neighborhood everyday, I probably walk a mile a day. I'm also ashamed of my home life, I live in a 3 room apartment with my mom and dad, we only have electric, we don't have water or gas, I have to go to my uncles everyday to shower. It's all because my dad is terrible with money. He got a $7000 tax refund last year and the only thing we have to show for it is a $90 printer. People tell me what you think. All help is appreciated.

Denizli agony auntMaybe you havent found the right person yet. Just don't give up trying.

You really sound like a very mature guy, so that's a good start.

And about the bad things in your life, you probably wish some things were different, but you are still young and it's not like people expects you to own a mansion in beverly hills or drive a bentley.

Yeah it sucks to be alone on valentines day, ive spent all the valentines days of my life alone I don't know why is this. I always have to break with my bfs either in January or before, it's not that i do it on purpose, it just happens for some reason. I expect to spend this valentines day with my current boyfriend if nothing happens until then.

The girl you told her that you had feelings for her, um the fact there was no response from her doesnt necessarily mean she doesnt feel the same way about you, it could be just that she didnt know what to say in that moment (it happens)

You sound like a really nice guy so I think you have many chances to get a girl before valentines day. Trust me, theres no many guys who have a job, who know what they want to do with their future and who don't do drugs, so there must be more than one girl out there you could go on a date with, it's not as complicated, try to meet new girls, be nice and be patient, sooner than you think you'll be spending valentines day with someone, just don't give up trying.

Best of luck,

Denizli
