A female reader, Olivia(Y). United Kingdom +, writes (31 May 2009):

Olivia(Y). agony auntYou lose your virginity the first time a man puts his penis inside you.

You are still a virgin if you have had an orgasm or been fingered its only when you have sex you lose your virginity.

Sex will only hurt if your hymen isn't broken, this is a small layer of skin which is inside your vagina. This can also be broken by tampons, fingering and exercise. Just because its broken doesn't mean that your not a virgin.

If your really scared about sex why are going to do it. You should trust your partner and be relaxed with him, yes you will be a bit nervous the first time but you shouldn't be scared about doing it. If you scared it means your not ready so wait until you are completely confortable to do it.

A male reader, DoubleM United States +, writes (28 May 2009):

DoubleM agony auntYou are virginal until actually penetrated vaginally by a male penis. Prior orgasms will not hamper sexual intercourse, but may actually help. You quite possibly will not orgasm during first-time intercourse, and the process and enjoyment depends largely upon your partners experience and techniques. The degree of discomfort may also depend upon your partner, but pain should be minimal.

A reader, anonymous, writes (28 May 2009):

I don't think that having orgasms affects your virginity. It's only penetration that changes that.

As for it hurting, I think that if you are tense and not relaxed, then it can be a bit uncomfortable. But if you are relaxed and comfortable, then you should be fine. It shouldn't be really painful though, that would put everyone off having sex! And there may be a little blood, but again, nothing major.

If you are really scared though, then are you sure you are ready? xx
