writes:I'm a 23 year old male. I met a girl on a train, who was 16. We swapped numbers after a chat, but never met again. However her friend Laura has been texting me for a long time. Laura informs me she was 16, and we have had a few explicit conversations, but never met or done anything sexually.The thing is, today we argued, and she said that she is really only 15.. and that she is going to take my texts to the police and have me in trouble for sending them to a minor.I'm really, really worried.. what can I do? What could happen to me?I have a great job, great family.. my life's well on track, I don't want to go down for this.. :(

reader, anonymous, writes (1 April 2007): No matter what happens with this girl, do not send any other messages to her phone number, ever. Even if she sends you a message asking to "be friends" or to forget about what happened. She has threatened you with something very serious and the only way you can really get out of this is to cease all contact with her. Stop the contact and I doubt there is really any legal reason to bring any form of charges to you. Ask yourself seriously, what is a 23 yr old doing getting in to arguments with a 15yr old girl that he hasn't even met? This relationship / friendship with this 15 yr is over, and for the sake of any more drama you should be the responsible one and simply ignore ANYTHING that she txts you.

reader, anonymous, writes (1 April 2007): Well, from what I understand from the law, you cant be locked up for sending text messages. You need to physically lay a hand on them. However, you could possibly be fined or be interviewed by the police.
I could be wrong, but if you havent touched them, I wouldnt spend too much time pondering over it. You also have the defence that SHE lied about her age, hence you were under the impression that you were sending them to a concenting adult. She never asked you to stop them until you argued, showing her immaturity!
From now on, stick to girls your own age mate!

reader, anonymous, writes (1 April 2007): You weren't very explicit, does having a great family mean your Mum and Dad? Surely you're not picking up 16 (15) year olds when you are married with children? If you ARE married, it should be the first thing that you mentioned in your question. That way you wouldn't be having misunderstandings with anyone else - OR in your own head.
