writes: Okay,6 weeks ago, i got the copper coil, which was painful to have put in, (im 17 and never had a child) and then at my check up yesterday they found it actualy was half way out meaning i wasnt protected at all. I have been having a lot of unprotected sex, including on saturday which i was and still am on a period. The woman who did it was veryr certain that i should have another one in (and my mum things it was to cover the fact that if i was pregnant it was because they put it in the wrong place and i could be pregnant) she didnt even do a pregnancy test (SHOULD SHE HAVE?). She went through with me about ectopic pregnancy and misscarriage, and said i should do a pregnancy test in 2 weeks, and then i need to go back in 6 weeks. She was very certain that i will have been told NOT TO have unprotected sex until your first check up.. I WAS TOLD I DIDNT HAVE TO USE PROTECTION STRAIGHT AWAY.. was anyone else told this? Please reply.. i told my boyfriend last night that i had another coil put in which means if i am pregnant i will misscarry and he went absolutly mad at me, and hung up. He now isnt talking to me at all.Love-him xXxXx

I know what you mean, it is painful, I have the IUS the merina coil fitted. I was told that if it would fall out, then this would no doubt be when it is new. Therefore it is hard to say if it was inserted badly or if you were just unlucky.
I recon she should have done you a prgnancy test. After all they did with me when I couldn't find the threads recently. It was a peace of mind thing; and the doctor said "The worst that could have happened was that you have been pregnant; as you had this fitted to avoid pregnancy".
Was negative by the way.
I agree you ought to go back to the next family planning appointments; with any luck there will be a different doctor on duty! Do I assume they are weekly clinics there and you wouldn't have to wait long?
All I know is that I have the merina coil due to heavy periods. The greatest risk of coil falling out is due to a heavy period, hence why you are to check the threads after your period. You shouldn't ever feel the tip of the coil at the cervix. Do get used to feeling the threads, and be sure it is OK.
You can have annual checks or go back at any time if you like. That way she can just check the threads and the threads only are visible.
I was given a supply of condoms to use until the first check-up. Clearly we both have a different type of coil, but I guess the advice is similar.
Did you get a really heavy period, and that was why it was falling out? If you are getting heavier periods at the moment, you could get the merina IUS instead? Just a thought. I had mine fitted nearly a year ago, and it hasn't fallen out.

Hi Hunny
This is not right at all, You have not been treated Professionally at all...If the nurse thought there was a chance that you may be pregnant then she should not have inserted another coil...http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/sex_relationships/facts/contraceptivecoil.htm.
It states in this link that if you think you may be pregnant then you should not have a coil fitted...As for other contraception it is always wise to take other precautions, you stated that you are on your period at this moment the coil can make your periods more heavy and prolong them, It is possible to detect a pregnancy as early as 8 day into pregnancy but it is more often advised to wait untill your next period due date or just before...I think you should go a see a doctor to make sure that all that has been done is correct hunny as I think you should have had alot more explained to you, And you need to get reassurance as having to say that to your b/f obviously upset him and now you have this added worry..Go to a doctor and get all the nessasary advise you need to straighten this out in your head hunny, you were not treated well and advised properly at all...TAKE CARE WITH LOVE MANDY XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
