We were cuddling for a good couple hours and I decided to finally lean in and give him a gentle 5 second kiss since our lips were so close. He seemed to act weird after it happened and I just playfully poked him and asked what. It seemed like it was difficult for him to say but first he just said... Nothing, you're just cute. Then later on he said... I just kind of like you and soon said... ugh awkward. I didnt get it because it seemed like he was shying away from kissing me and i felt like he didnt want to at all. When I left he texted me saying he wasnt trying to make things weird. Whats the deal with him? I feel like things are so mixed.

It might be that he doesn't want to risk the friendship that you guys have. He's probably just as confused as you! Tell him how you feel and whether or not you want more, if it turns out you want different things, try and revert back to the banter you used to share. Yes it'll be awkward at first but you'll both get over it sooner or later. He's obviously comfortable being close physically with you, and you clearly like him otherwise you wouldn't have wanted to kiss him let alone actually kissed him.
Talk it out, he's your best friend, you're meant to be able to talk to each other, right?
Good luck!
