I live in the us and I've met a really nice shy Turkish man ...I have to visit the store he works at everyday. He is very nice and polite is proper in the eyes of a guy from Turkey to ask him out for coffee.

I'm not exactly sure why this would be "improper", perhaps you are asking because you feel that Turkey is Male dominated and that it is improper for women to be forward, but this is not true. I think it is perfectly acceptable. We are in the US after all. I am married to an Arabian/Muslim and he would of loved it if I was the one to ask him out back when we met, it would of taken the pressure off of him!
