reader, anonymous, writes (20 December 2008): If neither of you have an STD to start with and you both remain faithful, you can minimise/stop the chances of you getting an STD.
Discuss your worries with your boyfriend and get yourselves both checked out. Do they have family planning/GUM clinics in the USA? Those clinics can test you for STDs. A family planning/GUM clinic will probably also be the best place to get stats on things like your getting an STD even though you use a condom (I think the chances of this are very low).
He can use a dental dam when he goes down on you, again the best place to find out about these is going to a clinic.
