A male United Kingdom age 41-50, anonymous writes:

I'm a 35 year old guy who is in a great relationship with my wonderful girlfriend.

The problem is that the way i act people think i'm gay.

It makes me mad having to convince people that i'm straight!

Maybe it's because of some of the things i do!.

I would much rather watch sex in the city than an action film or football. Im not keen on beer and would rather drink wine or cocktails.

I cry at sad films or when im upset, i love the color pink!

I don't see why i should change the way i am and act all tough n matcho!

Any girls out there think that i'm a normal guy or wish there guy was like me?

identifiable agony auntI understand the gay comments as (no offence) However if you are truly happy as you are you should not get so bothered you said you have a lovely gf who obviously see otherwise to people. It seems the statement intouch with you feminine side would be untrue because the whole masculine football and man working and women with pink and pretty skirts is very outdated .. tell these people to walk out of the dark ages.. Aint nothing wrong with being metrosexual x

Honeypie agony auntI think you sound like a perfectly wonderful guy. Like the first anon writer wrote, you are the almost "standard" of a metro-sexual.

For people who don't know me I guess I can come off as maybe "butch" is the word. I'm a tomboy (even at 40) - I drink Whisky (when I do drink), used to drive dirt bikes, watch rugby, rode my horse and have more male friends the female. I rarely wear dresses and dislike the color pink. I have an exceedingly sarcastic sense of humor and hate horror movies, I rather watch old Monty Python then a "chick flick". I adore the movie Crash and Boondock Saints and refuse to go see Sex in the City. I adore My name is Earl, Joe Dirt and movies like Sense & sensibility. I read the classics, historic novels, Si-fi, biographies, erotic novels, crime books and I LOVE history.

Try and put me in a "box"! And I will laugh. I'm me and honestly I quite like me :)

I think putting people into "boxes" is ridiculous. But we all do it. We spend the first 30 seconds of meeting someone judging them and putting them into a box. Fortunately some of us have more boxes then others :)

Be who you are and be confident in who you are. Do waste your time defending your sexuality, be you straight or gay. Screw what others think. Be good, do good and enjoy life.

A reader, anonymous, writes (24 June 2009):

What's 'normal' is a matter of conjecture!

Two films that immediately spring to mind that caused my eyes to water - 'Shenandoa' and 'On Golden Pond' - the latter when that kid and his grandaddy smashed up that lovely boat. I'd rather drink rum or wine than beer - I don't see the point in my bladder waking me up every two hours throughout the night. I dislike football intensely - a bunch of nancies going round kissing each other when they score a goal. Much prefer Rugby football, more of a man's game. As for those American footballers - well! What can I say about them - are they so delicate that they have to run around in Kevlar body armour and crash helmets with grilles on the front?

What does it matter what other people think anyway? You are who you are, and the one person who matters is well aware you're straight.

A male reader, anonymous, writes (24 June 2009):

it seems you are a bit metrosexual. A straight man in touch with a feminine side. there's nothing wrong with that. I also dislike beer, I prefer a good bottle of wine, and I read magazines as opposed to the sports page. Sometimes people say I might be gay, but this sort of thing happens when u live in a small town. If you lived in a big city like New york, Miami,Los Angeles maybe London and Paris, you could be wearing a jumpsuit covered in pink feathers and people pay no mind to you. It all depends where you live.
