Can somebody please clear up the age laws on sex, concerning minors, adults, just like age things and what not. Or at least give me a site to read about it??

In the United States, age of consent is state laws, not federal laws, so it changes from state to state.

A female reader, Tisha-1 United States +, writes (12 September 2008):

Tisha-1 agony auntHi, Bailee, if you live in Kansas, the legal age of consent is 16 for both sexes. Here's a website I found.

http://www.livestrong.com/article/12483-age-consensual-sex/

Also wikipedia.org is a good starting out point for finding out more about many topics. Keep in mind that wikipedia's information is provided by all kinds of people and they may not be experts or even accurate, so be sure to keep your objectivity. Another place to look is in your own states statutes, which you should be able to Google too.

The other place people seem to forget about is the local library. Librarians are very helpful when you're doing research. So spend some time there! And if you get to know your librarian, she or he can help you find some great books to read.

Remember that the laws on the age of consent are there to help prevent young people from being exploited or taken advantage of, not just to be mean to young adolescents. I know it sounds pretty lame to say that it's better to wait because you're not really ready yet, but it's true. You do a whole lot of growing up and maturing between 13 and 23, and I'm not just talking about physically. So try to listen to us old folks, we do remember what it was like to be teens. That's in between the times we're saying "These kids today...." :)

Take care.

Yos agony auntI'm wondering if you tried Google before you came here? I typed 'age of consent' into Google and this was the first hit:

http://www.avert.org/aofconsent.htm

Makes for interesting reading actually. I had no idea it was as low as 13 in Spain! Or that unmarried sex is illegal in Pakistan.
