A reader, anonymous, writes (28 December 2008):

You present as aged 18-21 (overage) and currently living in the USA. You sound a hell of a lot younger. In the UK, these are questions for 10year olds... but probably that's because our teenagers can legally have sex at 16. Didn't you get any sex education, well if you did it sounds like they didn't explain things properly to you. Your approaching sexuality like it's a job, something to get out of the way, something so you can say "Yep, I done that, I'm normal, what's next?".... Not very fun and not the right way to think about your sexuality, your body and your love life. OK, let's take this step by step.

1) Sex with yourself or with somebody else should be fun, should be nice, should be like eating your very favourite food that you only get once a year. That's a better way to think about it. At the moment you make sex sound like fixing a car.

2) Most of the pleasure that women receive from sex is due to the clitoris. The idea that penetration is the big thing is a lie. There is no need to get a vibrator, your fingers are all you need. Please take a look at this website and educate yourself about your body and how to give it sexual pleasure.

3) Shaving is unnatural.. Grown women have hair, that is natural, that's how we are made. The hair is there to protect us when we have sex. The reason why so many women shave now is that people are watching too much pornography. The woman in pornography shave, because they are doing a job, they need to go bare so people who pay to watch them can see all of the sexual action. You sound silly when you say it's natural to be tampered with and plucked. Grown adult women have hairy pussies, only little girls are natural bare.

4) Will it itch.. Of course it will. You want to be bare, then fine, but you will have to shave or wax regularly for the rest of your life. The hair will always grow back, unless you get expensive electrolysis treatment. Not all women shave, and it seems more normal in some countries and less in others. Shaving is not a common thing amongst adult women in the UK, but in young teenager's in the USA it seems to be the fashion. Older women in your country don't shave, they seem to just get a scissors and trim to neaten up their pubic hair. If you want to be shaved, get ready for a regular routine of waxing, shaving, and having the hair grow back, so then you itch. Trimming or leaving your hair alone will prevent all of this.

5) How do you shave. Luckily one aunt has been kind enough to explain the procedure to us all. It's always best to wax, but if you can't afford to do that, (usually done professionally and it hurts a lot, because it just rips out the hair) then please take a look at this step by step guide.

6) You don't need to stick thing in your vagina. There is no need and it may not give you sexual pleasure. Start with your fingers and masturbate your clitoris. If you get horny and want more, then just use your fingers and stick them in your vagina. By the time your ready to penetrate your vagina with objects, you will know, you wont have to ask anyone, you just get the desire, and then you will know exactly what to use. Your body will tell you what object is best, you will be more aware and educated about your body and know what size, width and length of object you need...

Please slow down, there is more to being a woman than shaving your pussy and sticking objects in your vagina. In your hurry you will be missing a hell of a lot, and be left wondering "well is that all it is, I've done it all now."

To answer your first question:

How do you shave around your vagina?

Answer: CAREFULLY!

But seriously, you should start figuring out how to masturbate without penetration first. Find your clitorist and gently wiggle it back and forth, then go from there.

you sound a tad mislead. Im afraid hair is there for a reason and is normal. Its up to you whether you shave your pubic hair, its not painfull and will grow back quite quickly. Also i think before you get any kind of sex toy you should really learn to understand your body a bit better. I dont mean that in an impolite way i mean you should learn how it feels for you peronally. Im sure that alot of girls are different with regards to there vagina and how big they can fit etc......

just take it slow im sure you will be fine. You shouldnt care what other people think about you masturbating its normal. most people do it. Who cares what people think, thats there problem.
