 Hm, you could try resting your palms on his lower back or perhaps placing your palms against his shoulder blades with your elbows pointing down because this way you get the closeness of pulling each other together without having to touch his bum.

OR if you prefer...place both your hands on his lower back or on his waist. OR place one or two hands on his jaw and using one hand stroke affectionately. OR place one hand on the back of his head and hold there with his hair in between your fingers for a good grip. lol Or place yor arms around his neck (not in a strangling position by the way lol). Resting your arms on his shoulders, while his hands are on your waist or bum is what I mean.
OR simply just hug him. :)

You can also lightly scratch or rub his neck or back, or circle his waist with your arms. Just pay attention to what you think he likes best, and go with it.
