A female reader, lovelessbychoice United States +, writes (25 April 2013):

I am a 55 year old female. It was 2½ years I went without intercourse, I gave in and ended up with UTI. When I asked my gyno, I was told UTI's come from, 1. Being unclean, 2. Wearing pants that are too tight, 3. Haven't had sexual intercourse in a long time. I wasn't sure I believed him so I asked my Primary Care Physician and got the same 3 answers. Then, it was 8 months, again the next day, a UTI! Once past the infection and a few more times, my vagina returned to normal and strectched back to normal. It has been 4½ years since my husband died and I don't foresee another lover in my future.

Experience tells me no. But I met someone (54 Yrs Old, never gave birth) that hadn't had sex in four years. Now, I'm not a Doctor and I can't speak for everyone. But, in this case, with woman, yes. I found it to be very true. So much for experience!

A reader, anonymous, writes (30 May 2008):

My experience with a 54 year-old woman who had not had sex in years was that the first couple times she was tight, but soon her response to sexual stimulus was normal.

The first time I just tried to go straight in, and it was very difficult to do so. Then I learned to get myself wet and take my time with foreplay, enter a little bit and exit then enter a little bit more and exit until her vagina opens up naturally.

I love talking with my lover about our experiences, we both learn, it's sexy and it deepens our bound.

A female reader, kittikat United States +, writes (22 May 2008):

kittikat agony auntMan, I wish! But, unfortunately, it seems as though every one here is correct...I saw some chick getting surgery on a documentary to tighten her vagina. The doctor asked her husband "So, do you want 18-years old, 16, or mid-20's?" I was kind of freaked out, thinking "Ick!" that was kind of a sick question that I wouldn't want to hear the answer to. My train of thought is, "If you wanted it tight, you shoulda brought a bigger dick"! Just kidding!

There are exercises that can help keep the muscle tone, but you can't stop the clock or gravity unfortunately. I remember doing them when I was pregnant. Kegel exercises as mentioned before, you should google it. Supposedly it helps a little! I know I'll be doing it, you got me thinkin now!

A male reader, DoubleM United States +, writes (22 May 2008):

DoubleM agony auntAs an older man who has experienced tight, loose, young, older and quite a variety of vaginas - with no apology to those who criticize me for more than 45 years of sexual experience - the female equipment simply does not "tighten up" without surgery or the kind of exercises mentioned by "louweez23" if she is referring to Kegel exercises. You can search the term on this Web site and elsewhere on the Internet to learn more. Sex will almost certainly be very pleasurable after a lengthy vacation from sexual activity.

A male reader, a_decent_1 India +, writes (22 May 2008):

a_decent_1 agony auntVagina never gets Loose or tight UNLESS you've given birth to a baby... !! It's always the same size and No Exercise can tighten it up or make it loose... !!

The Vaginal hole opens up a little after having sexual intercouse and remains like that for a day or so and then gets back to it's normal position... Other than that, vagina remains the same...

A female reader, louweez23 United Kingdom +, writes (21 May 2008):

louweez23 agony auntNo.

Pelvic floor exercises will tighten it up but sex will never hurt again becasue the hymen has been broken.

The vaginal wall becomes slacker the older you get, without pelvic floor exercises.
