By fertility test I am guessing you mean an ovulation test (a home testing kit). This shows when you are most fertile in your cycle and should be more likely to conceive than at other times in the cycle. It looks for the lutenising hormone (LH) which is elevated at times of high fertility because the new egg has been released and is available for implantation to make a baby (subject to conception of course). These tests are not designed to test for being infertile. That diagnosis would require a range of blood tests and possibly an ultrasound from a doctor. If her cycle is regular then she should just try for a baby for up to a year and not expect it to happen straight-away. If she hasn't conceived by then it would be wise to see a doctor to check there are no medical problems for her or her partner. In the meantime, she has age on her side and if her diet and lifestyle are ok then she should just let nature take its course.

if a pregnancy test comes back negative this means that she is not pregnant
