reader, anonymous, writes (15 May 2008): Good on you for going with your heart and refusing to allow yourself to settle for 2nd best. You've been a friend to your ex without him even knowning. I'm not sure, but I think you should tell him the truth. Say something like, there is someone else, a secret love. You don't have to give him the details. Tell him you love someone else, but if you could you would have given him your heart. I'm also not sure about the other guy. Could be he likes you, could be he's a nice guy who's trying to help. Your probably best being single for the moment until things become a bit more clear. If the other guy likes you, he'll let you know eventually. But good on you for making the decision to be a decent person and to finish the relationship before anyone got hurt. Good luck.
