writes: i was asked out a few months ago in the middle of class. i am in secondary school. the guy complimented me, saying how "beautiful" i looked. i think i am average looking, at best. then, all of a sudden, he asked me out in the middle of class. was that a joke? every guy who has asked me out, asked me out as a joke, so i didn't believe him. how do i know if it's a joke or not? reader, anonymous, writes (17 October 2009): Honestly it's hard to say. It's possible that he's a shy guy who's been trying to get up the nerve to ask you out, and it just erupted at an inopportune time.
You'll just have to check your gut. Does it make any sense at all that his guy asked you? Have you ever had an inkling before that he was interested?
If the answer is no, then ignore it, don't risk being the brunt of yet another joke.
There probably are boys who are interested in you, who are too shy to ask you out. They are the ones who seem to find a way to bump in to you in the library, or who oddly happen to be near your classroom every day. If one of them captures your fancy at all, smile at him, make some casual remark so that he knows you're approachable.
