Taking pill, maybe I'm becoming anemic now?

A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Hi!I'm completely new to this website, but I was wondering if someone could help set my mind at ease. I've recently started taking the pill, and I have been sure to take it everyday at the same time, and as instructed started to take it on the first day of my period. But roughly a day after my period stopped, I have since been having a light, on/off, and slightly discoloured period everyday? I'm worried and confused if this is normal?? My periods have always been regular and extremely predicatable. It's now been just over 2weeks since starting the pill, and with having such a long period, i'm also starting to worry if i'm at risk of becoming anemic?

I'd really appreciate any help or advice. Thank you.

confessjess agony auntThe pill actually helps if your iron diff anemic. It is unlikely to cause anemia. Take a multivitamin if you are worried. You can also get a blood test or talk to a doctor if you are really worried. The pill will mess with your hormones and it will take a little to get back on track.

Going on the pill will cause havoc with your periods. Some, your body will just not like.

I've heard the progesterone ones (the ones you take every day without a break) can cause perma-periods.

Give it a couple of months to settle down and if you are still not happy then go back to the doc and try a different brand. They are all different.

As for being anaemic, if you are worried just take some multi-vitamins with iron, or munch on a steak!

Good Luck!! xx

anna*belle agony auntAs far as I know it's normal. When I started on the pill I had a light period for a whole month and then my period became regular again. Your body is just trying to get used to the extra hormones. Hope this helps
