A female United States age 41-50, anonymous writes:

I have been on the pill for several years. well, I was recently sick and had to take Amoxicillin for 10 days. It was twice a day and 875 mg. I have been off the antibiotics for 4 days and had sex. I did not use back up. I am on my sugar pills and should be getting my period any day. What are my chances of getting pregnant? Should I get the plan B pill? Please advise.

Fairy_Lu agony auntThere is a chance you could get pregnant antibiotics effects the pill and you should use other forms of contaceptions till 10 days after your last dose on antibiotics. Your doctor should have told you this and also it should be on the leaflet inside the antibiotics.

If you continued to take your birth control pills as scheduled, you shouldn't have to worry about getting pregnant. You can go to plan B just as a precaution, if you want. Back when my wife was on the pill and we decided we wanted to have a baby, the doctor told us it takes at least 1 month for the pill to be out of your system. So I really don't think you have anything to worry about.

If you don't want to get pregnant, than I would say yes get the Plan B. I got pregnant using Amoxicillin while on birth control. No one told me that it would affect the birth control. I now have a 4 year old. No regrets though, I love her to death.
