reader, anonymous, writes (29 March 2008): If you find that your nose is blocked with blood clots, make up a solution of 2 pints of warm water, 2 teaspoons of sugar, half a teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda.
If you can get your hands on a syringe, great - suck up and squirt the solution up your nose and very gently blow it out again. Alternatively pour some solution into the palm of your hand, sniff it up into your nose and spit and/or blow it out. The clots will eventually come out and you'll be able to breathe easily again.
Whatever you do, DON'T blow your nose hard - but I expect you know that!

A

Just follow the Doctor's instructions. Any exertion could raise your blood pressure and cause severe bleeding that will be difficult to control without those little tampon things they shove up your nose.
