i forgot to mention that we did alot of fore play before we had sex but it still hurt, could there be a medical reason or just simply that it could be the thickness of us? (her uterus or my penis etc)

Your girlfriend is experiencing pain because you are going through her hymen.
For some girls they have a thick hymen which can cause alot of pain when having sex.
Where as some girls have harderly no hymen at all.
To help stop this pain try foreplay before sex. Get some lube on your fingers and gentaly put them inside of her. Do this slowly so you don't hurt her. Then afterwards gentaly go inside her. If it hurts stop and try again later.
Good luck
