A reader, anonymous, writes (4 July 2009):

Divorce is never easy for the kid in the middle of it all, especially at your age because your old enough to understand whats going on. My parents divorced when I was young too, it was very strange for to see them with other lovers and I found it hard to accept.

But as I grew older I began to realize that what my parents were doing is perfectly normal and actually healthy. Your parents are both single now and beginning to date, whether it's a girl from china or lesbian realtionship with a girl name doc, it doesn't matter. The one constant in their life and their only responsibilty is to you and seeing as you haven't complained about that aspect of things I can only assume, they're still doing their best to take care of you and show you how much they love you.

It will take a little while to get used to the idea that they're both dating and especially since your mom's sexuality seems to have made such a u-turn, remember though your Mom's sexual orientation has always been like that she was born with those feelings and she can't change them. After all it ssems as if she's really tried.

As for losing friends due to your mom's sexuality, good riddance, they're not your true friends and it's better that they get out of life now. I mean it's now when you need your friends most and they're not there for you. Go out and make friends that will care about you no matter what.

This won't always get you down, the more you think about and live through this the more you will understand and accept it and get on with the business of growing up and forming your own relationships.

2old4this agony auntYou just have to believe that you are not defined by your mom and dads actions. Both of them are trying to be happy with themselves and are searching for that hapiness wherever they can. Your friends arent much good friends if they judge you by your parents actions. As soon as they both find someone to be with things will calm down. Yes, they are both a little screwed up right now and maybe it wouldnt hurt if you sat down with them and told them so and also tell them how it's effecting you.
