writes: Has anyone worked with someone that has a distinctive body odor and doesn't seem to get the hint that some better hygiene is needed?I share an office with a very cute, perky girl who is 22 and single. All of the young guys in our office hang around her desk all day flirting with her. My guess is because she emits a feminine body part smell if you get my drift. Now that the weather is warm she wears a lot of dresses to work. Whenever she wears dresses I notice the feminine body part smell. She has made comments about not wearing panties so that really supports my hunch about the smell. I mean she looks clean and all and I have talked openly about deodorants and what not before and she claims to use deodorant, so I don't know what else to do. I tried turning the A/C in our office colder so she would wear pants, but someone keeps changing the thermostat back to a warmer setting. Any ideas on how I can get this girl to wash her bottom and put on some panties and pants? I mean can she really not smell herself down there??

Itching powder on her office chair?

And you dont want to embarass the poor girl by mentioning it.She might even get so embarrassed that she quits her job. Do you want to lose her ?. And, believe it or not, not everyone can smell their own odor all the time . Also, you could get done for discrimination. Maybe she does have good hygiene, but you cant always control what goes on in your body, and its not like you can have a wash every single minute of the day. Are you perfect ??. Jeez, i'd be more concerned about how she does her work than about her appearance or odor !. There are bigger things in the world to worry about. Get some air fresheners as another poster mentioned and stop complaining !.

But I have to be careful how I approach this because if I offend her in any verbal or written manner I could get fired by the HR department. I mean how do you tell a girl you can smell her privates sitting next to her without offending her? I think the lack of ventilation under our desks channels her smell right under my desk. I am afraid if I say something I could lose my job if the situation melts down.

OMG! How utterly offensive. If she's not picking up the hints you're cleverly dropping, perhaps along with being Perky PollyAnna-on-Prozac she's also totally clueless?
Maybe a nice little gift bag, with a few strategically chosen products, placed on her desk anonymously, (like a Secret Pal type of thing) will help her in the right direction?
If that doesn't work, I'd consider more frank measures like: PollyAnna, we all have to work here and short of the staff chipping in to buy you a litterbox filled with baking soda and taping it to your chair....
