reader, anonymous, writes (15 January 2008): I lived through this kind of pain for many, many years growing up with my brother. My parents didn't do much to protect me either. Each day was torture for me and I was his toy to play with. First off I would tell anyone and everyone out there that will listen.. i.e. relatives, a councilor, call your local abuse hotline and ask for help also. Many ppl. would consider this sibling rivalry but IT'S NOT!! It's abuse. Also I found as I grew up, with self defense if fighting back doesn't work strike him from A FAR!!! Throwing anything you get your hands on at him. This will get his attention and he will think next time before he tries to hurt you. Protect yourself as much as possible, sleep at a friends house, find an apt. or hang out with your mom if that helps. If all else fails and no one seems to be helping you call the police. I hope some of this has helped. Abuse is never something to ever take lightly no matter who your abuser is. Good luck and God bless..
