My boyfriend said I reminded him of Rosie O'Donnell. I got very mad broke out in tears and felt embarrassed in front of his friends. He said i was having a low self esteem.....Is that true or should I be mad?

I did not say he was right in saying what he did in front of friends. But, again, did you ask him what he thought of your dyeing your hair before you did it? You probably didn't. He obviously does not like it. You might have asked. I would not dye my hair or grow a mustache or beard if my s/o told me she would rather I didn't.

Also if he made the comment to his friends that you have low self esteem, I think that's inappropriate of him.

If cared about what was bound to happen next, he should of said something a long the lines of..."Why did you, it was wonderful the way it was" or "It looks very nice". He didnt have to meanish about it and make you cry. You had every right to mad/upset.
