Met on holidays. Is it too early in our friendship to get him a birthday present?

A female United Kingdom age 26-29, anonymous writes:

I met this guy on holiday, he's in the army and is posted in Germany. But comes from the same place as I do.

Just after I met him he was being deployed to Afghanistan for 3 months, we spoke everyday and he'd ring me sometimes too.

After his deployment he had 3 weeks leave. However when he was back here he didn't ask to meet up and it was me that initiated things. When we did meet up we got on really well but it was the only time we met up the whole three weeks.

We still speak everyday and it's been 5 months of talking. He's hinted at seeing me on my birthday which is in another 2 months. I just don't know what he sees happening for us.

We never really speak about anything serious, it's just flirting and general conversation. It's also his birthday at the end of next month and I'm unsure of whether to get him anything.

How about a nice, light hearted birthday card? That seems appropriate. It lets him know you're thinking about him without being too heavy.
