A female United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

my boyfriend well my ex-boyfriend and i were together for 16 months. the other day he called me after he drove back to his place 3 hours away that he had been feeling depressed and it was worse when we saw each other or talked on the phone. he said his work was suffering and that hes never felt alone in a relationship, that he hates coming home to an empty apartment and not being able to see me. our relationship has been long distance for 6 months now, he was fine when he was staying at his parents after he moved back from school, i think hes lonely because now he lives in a town where he knows nobody. i guess my question is, he says he is still in love with me and that im perfect for him, is it possible he said it cuz hes just lonely and didnt wanna really end things or if there is a possibility for us to get back together.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (15 November 2007):

If your not happy with yourself you can't please anyone else. If he is having some issues of his own not concerning you then it's not you, it's the other things he has going on. I know from experience if their not happy with themselves then your relationship suffers cause they feel they nothing to offer. How long do you expect it to last if you two are not building anything. Insecurity is inevitable, it's going to be there regardless. So there is also that thing of, "What if she finds someone else?" Let him know that you want him and no one else and discuss some goals or plans to assure him that he has nothing to worry about, in you guys relationship or your future. GOOD LUCK
