I know the hours are brutal and would like more insight. Can anyone lay out a daily/weekly schedule for me, for med students and resident doctors? How about vacations/benefits and effect on health? It's kind of ironic that prospective doctors must live an unhealthy lifestyle, or so I heard. Thank you! Reply to this Question Share |

-----I googled 'medical student typical day' and there were about 22,000,000 results.
Your best bet is to go over to the closest medical school and ask to shadow a student.
My friends who went through medical school and then residency pretty much agree that residency requires a lot more physically and mentally as you are on call and an active part of patient care in a way that med students are not.
As for vacation/benefits of an M.D. who is starting out in a practice? That depends on the practice and location and staffing at whatever facility determines those.
Effect on health? Well, most of my friends who are doctors are pretty healthy. There are some exceptions but those seem to have a basis in genetics and personal health habits.
Basically, expect long hours of studying and little sleep and no time for a personal life while you are in med school and in residency.
