 If someone is shoving their tounge all tense and right in, virtually trying to lick ya tonsils, then ewww, that is gross, ..like a big fat slug in ya mouth lol. Don't get how that could appeal to anyone.
If this was the case, try again but only using the tip of your relaxed tounges, and not constantly either. Just throw a bit in here and there amidst kissing and ya might find that a whole other experience that wont gross you out :-)

I think the first time is always a bit awkward because you are thinking more about what you are doing and if you are doing it right. Try to relax. The answer from my own personal experience is 'yes.' It will get better, especially if you really love someone.
