I suppose it all depends on how horrible to him you actually were. He will either read the letter and accept the aplology and contact you in due course. Or he will read it then tear it up and throw it away.
If as you say he won't talk or even look at you then i would say the chances are slim he will respond to your apology. But really its hard to say because i really don't know the extent of how much you were horrible to him. I guess all you can do now is sit back and see what happens.
