stina agony aunt(BTW - if you forget to take a pill, then it is possible to get pregnant. In the info pack that comes with your pill there is a section on what to do when you've missed a pill and it covers if you can get pregnant and how likely it is. If you were using a condom, though, I'd think you wouldn't be pregnant.)

stina agony auntHi Anon,

You could get the shot or use the ring. Neither of these has to be "taken" on a daily basis, so it's really convenient. The ring is put in for three weeks out of the month and taken out on the fourth week (when you have your period). A lot of people think that it would be uncomfortable to have in the whole month, but I've never had any problems. Also, my husband says he can't tell that I have it in which is another concern for a lot of people. I've found that to be the most convenient for me, maybe it'd be good for you, too.

(Maybe someone else can fill you in on the shot, as I've never used that method before.)

You could also talk to your gyn about the various methods that are out there. But like I've said in another post, I would NOT use the patch. It has been known to cause blockages in women's blood and has killed several women. It's the cause of quite a number of lawsuits, but somehow it's still available to people.

Take care.

Nikita agony auntDear Anon, if you forget to take the pill and his condom splits then yes you could get pregnant so you need to remember to take it every day. I think the pill is 98%effective so unless you abstain from sex its the best form of contraception for stopping a pregnancy. It is a personal choice though and not everyone is comfortable with taking the pill and not everyone can take it for medical reasons. The condom is most effective at protecting against sexually transmitted diseases. The pill cant do that so from that point of view the condom is better. You could try the female condom although I tried it once and it felt like a carrier bag! or there's the contraceptive injection but I would think that if you carry on the way you are that will be fine as long as you remember to take the pill!

A female reader, Dani :) United Kingdom +, writes (13 December 2006):

hi, yes you can get pregnant if you forget to take the pill, if you do forget to take it then for 7 days after that , its best to use another form of contraception as well as the pill (e.g. condoms) no contraceptive is 100% so its best to use 2, but if you go to your GP's they can give you alternative contraceptives such as the coil or the implant. hope this helps!!!

no, it doesnt sound like you have skipped a doseing interval so the failure rate would be the same.

NFP is a good second method but it does require a bit of education
