Is it wrong for him to tell me how long he's been married? What does this mean?

Please give me your opinion!

I have a friend who's married and to my knowledge he's happily married. He was telling me the other day he's being married for 3 years now, and he was kinda complaining that he travels a lot and this time he'll lose their wedding anniversary again.

To me is a simple comment, but my friends are telling me why is he saying those things to me, and why is he telling stuff about how long he's being married, yada yada!

I'm single girl so they say he shouldn't be doing that, but come on I mean they live far from where I am, and I sense is a kinda way of searching sympathy from others point of view.

Am I right, or should I listen to my friends and watch it, what can I say to him when he addresses this subjects?
