Is it better to not communicate since we don't have a future together?

Since with the man i am dating it is clear that there isn't a possibility of a future together i try to overcome him. I avoid to call him. Sometimes he calls me and i can't really be bad to him. I usually speak to him polite like nothing really has happened. Although he knows that i would like something more i don't really be impolite to him or show him that something has an impact to me. I like to have some communication and i don't really like to avoid him at all. However i try to meet with other men for a new relationship but i think i won't tell him anything. Is it better not to communicate or see him at all or i can keep some kind of communication with him as i really would like to have?
